It’s official. Spring is here. It’s time to say good-bye to winter, warm blankets, cozy slippers, snug socks, comfy robes and cups of hot cocoa. I am definitely a northern girl. I truly like winter!
But spring is pretty special, too. The spring blooms and flowering bushes/ trees are truly amazing. I love, love, love tulips, daffodils, forsythia, lilacs, crocuses, violets, pussy willows and dandelions. As long as the dandelions are in somebody else’s yard!
I love that we start Lent in the cold, dark of winter and end in the warm, brilliance of spring. This is just like Easter. Just like Jesus’ death and resurrection. Just like New Life in Christ; once we were dead now we are alive.
My favorite Easter memory is when my church held a sunrise service outdoors at Central Park Band shell. We gathered really early, probably 6:00-6:30am. It was fairly chilly. But I loved it. It made me appreciate what it was like for the women, Mary Magdalene and the rest, to go at dawn and find the empty tomb. Then to hear the angels, in dazzling clothing, say to these terrified women:
Why do you seek the living One among the dead?
He is not here…
He Has Risen.
He is Risen Indeed!
Halleluiah! What a Savior!
