My Conviction on Marriage

I have a sincere conviction that marriage is a covenant agreement between a man and a woman. This conviction is based on the Bible. I believe the Bible is God’s inspired, infallible and authoritative Word.

Today my conviction is in question. It is threatened, intimidated and being removed from the public square. Through legislation the LGBT community is attempting to lift their rights above religious rights.¹

If this happens no one will have the right to voice or practice a different belief without being hassled, bullied, sued, fined or perhaps imprisoned. This will happen unless public sanity is restored.

Does this alarm you? It surely alarms me.

Recently, Bethany Christian Services, the largest U.S. adoption agency, was bullied (in my opinion) into dropping its position on the family.² Now Bethany is placing children with gay and lesbian couples.

Denny Burk, professor at Boyce College and Southern Seminary, commented on Bethany’s change in policy by saying, “‘We are watching a great sorting unfold before our eyes. When the pressure is on, some will follow Jesus, and some won’t. It’s only just begun.'”³

I have decided to follow Jesus. The following are my reasons:

The LGBT lifestyle is unreflective of God’s design for the family. A married man and woman and their children are a family. This family unit is a microcosm or picture of Christ and the Church. When the definition of the family is changed, God’s sacred design is tampered with.

Satan himself is behind this assault on the family. Divorce, abortion, sex outside of marriage, woman’s rights, and LGBT rights all challenge God’s sacred design. Why is there an assault on the family? There is an assault on the family because Christ and the Church represents a foundational Christian truth.†

The LGBT lifestyle is unnatural. It goes against the “order of God in the natural world.”‡ (See The Bible, Romans 1: 16-32) I do not believe a person is guilty of sin just by being a LGBT. It is the practice or the lifestyle, not the person that is sin.

The LGBT lifestyle is unscriptural. See the following scriptures from The Bible: Leviticus 18:22; Leviticus 20:13; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10; 1 Timothy 1:9-10; Romans 1:26-27. In several ways, God has said same-sex practice is sin.

We all sin but a Christian’s goal is holiness. The problem with the churches that are endorsing the LBGT lifestyle is this; they are promoting sin. They are turning people away from God and His good plan, which is intended to cause them to thrive and flourish.

Those of us who believe God’s design for the family is good, need to stand up and say so. Instead, we have let society say God’s design is not good. The time is now! We must stop being intimated by society and speak up. God’s ways are good because God is good.

  1. Amen!!! Thank you for boldly proclaiming truth for His glory!! Couldn’t agree more!

We must hate the sin but love the sinner, and in this things will look and feel complicated and confusing— may God guide our hearts and minds!!

  2. May the Lord always find me on His side on every issue facing society. On this one, the scriptural evidence is irrefutable, as you have expressed so well. So, we are on the same side.
    I’m not leaving.
